About
We are a student-led society that aims to promote robotics as both a hobby and a serious career path and provide resources (educational and material) to enable interested students to explore this area. We have a strong focus on hands-on project work, and run projects for beginners all the way up to experts. Most of our projects are run internally with the goal of building some weird and wonderful system by the end of the year, though we have recently begun participating in external competitions.
The 5 goals of the society are:
- Developing skills and understanding in the area of robotics
- Removing barriers to entry into what could otherwise be a tough hobby to pursue alone
- Fostering a community of likeminded nerds
- Supporting our members in turning their passions into careers
- Having fun and breaking at least one motor a week
Projects Structure
This year, our society projects are structured to welcome participants at every level of expertise, creating a smooth progression from beginner to advanced and ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Beginner Projects
New to electronics and robotics? We’ve got you covered! Our beginner-friendly projects are designed to teach you the fundamentals of electronics, CAD, programming, and other essential skills, while having fun along the way. This year, we’re offering two exciting projects perfect for first-time makers:
-
Buggy Project
-
Robot Fighting League (RFL)
Intermediate Projects
These projects are designed for participants with some prior experience in electronics, robotics, coding, or CAD who want to take their skills to the next level. If you’ve previously worked on projects like the Buggy Project or R.F.L., this is a great opportunity to build on that experience and tackle more advanced challenges.
-
C.U.B.O (Cube Utilising Brutal Over-engineering)
-
Spyder
Advanced Projects
These are our advanced projects, designed for participants who are highly skilled in robotics and electronics and want to push their abilities further. Unlike beginner or intermediate projects, these focus less on guided learning and more on independent research, problem-solving, and applying your knowledge in practice.
Each advanced project will be completed in a group, with specific roles available that you can apply for based on your skills and interests. Participants are expected to have strong expertise and be committed to seeing the project through to completion by the end of the year. As a result, not everyone will be eligible to join, applications will be required.
If you’re an expert looking to challenge yourself and build an exciting project, submit your application and good luck! More information on the application process and available roles will be announced soon on our social media pages, so stay tuned.

Bespoke Projects
Do you have a burning idea for an amazing project but lack the resources or equipment to build it at home?
A bespoke project could be the perfect opportunity for you. This year, we will be funding a limited number of bespoke projects, so if you want to apply, don’t wait! As these projects come with funding, there are a few requirements. First, you’ll need to demonstrate that you have what it takes to complete your project, you should have done your research, created a clear design, and worked out the costs and process. Second, bespoke teams will be expected to perform weekly check-ins with a dedicated manager to provide progress updates. Finally, we will document bespoke projects for marketing purposes, and teams and their creations will attend any end-of-year showcase to demonstrate their work. In return, participants generally get to keep the fruits of their labour free of charge.
Ready to bring your idea to life? Submit your application for a bespoke project through the form on our Linktree!
