Spyders

Developing remote controlled multi-legged robots.
  • Intermediate

Build biomimetic multi-legged robots engineered for agile, complex locomotion.

The Spyders Project explores the fascinating intersection of nature and robotics by designing autonomous hexapod and quadruped walking machines. Instead of using wheels, teams tackle the complex mechanics and mathematics required to keep multi-legged robots stable, balanced, and moving across challenging ground.

What You’ll Work On:

Biomimetic CAD & Leg Mechanics: Design lightweight, high-articulation leg assemblies and modular chassis tailored for multi-degree-of-freedom joints.

Gait Generation & Kinematics: Formulate walking algorithms (such as tripod and wave gaits) using inverse kinematics to coordinate dozens of servos in unison.

Multi-Channel Servo Control: Wire dedicated power distribution boards, multi-channel PWM drivers, and high-discharge batteries capable of driving multiple high-torque servos simultaneously.

Terrain Adaptation & Sensing: Integrate IMUs and distance sensors to detect tilt, maintain balance, and adapt foot placement over uneven surfaces.

Experience Level: Intermediate. Perfect for members eager to dive into dynamic stability, legged kinematics, and advanced multi-actuator coordination.
